Alonissos the Island
Alonissos Island belongs to Sporades and is one island with a very long history.
In ancient Greece its name was IKOS, the name of Alonissos was not born before 1838 and was taken after the phrase “alos nisos”which means “Salt island” the island of the salt, of the sea.
Alonissos is one of the most famous vacation destinations. It has beautiful rich nature with green landscape and blue sandy beaches which will take your mind away.
Ayios Dimitrios (St.Demetreus), Leftos yalos (white coastline), Hrisi Milia (Golden Apple tree), the “kokkinokastro” (red castle), and Tzortzis are just some of the most popular and most astonishing beaches of our island that are a Must-Visit place.
Old Alonissos (Hora)
The OLD Alonissos (Hora) where the old capital of Alonissos island is just 3kms from Patitiri and is the main tourist attraction of our island as it is the most picturesque place of the island.
Walk on its stone handmade alleys and see in person the traditional old houses and also small traditional cafes and taverns where you can taste local food and tastes.
More sightseeing places can someone admire in the Old Alonissos such as The Churches of Christ, St.Athanasios and St.George, the stone made Alonia (harvesters) and the area of the Old Byzantine Walls that are still standing today.
The visitor can reach the Old Alonissos by using the local buses service or by walking on the old stone handmade alleys, or just by using the car.

The National Marine Park of Alonissos
As a visitor you MUST get on a cruise to The National Marine Park of Alonissos and Northern Sporades which was the first marine park established in Greece!
It has one of the most astonishing floras & faunas as also one of the most famous mediterranean seals ”monachus monachus” in the area. If you are lucky you can take beautiful photos with your camera.
Diving
Alonissos is one of the most popular destinations for scuba diving. You can enjoy a unique experience underwater around Alonissos where you can find many shipwrecks of enormous historical value, some of which are estimated to be of the 4th and 5th century B.C., a preference of the aegean seal Monachus Monachus and more rare pieces of the underwater eco system of North Sporades islands.

The routes are breathtaking in the nature surrounded by pine trees and wilde nature flora. Discover the Old Alonissos, the deep canyon that starts at the Megalo Horafi and ends in the Megali Ammos, and the canyon in the Kastanorema.
